SAS is not free. You can get an education version for around $300. and that has a limitation of 1000 records!
The good news is that they said (their CEO) they will make it free in universities in the fall. If so, you can easily find some one cat Chapal Hill to get a copy for you.

I've got no experience with SAS. Can you tell me how I can get a copy for open source development purposes?
